Who Are You, According To Others?

Do you know how you land in another one's eyes,

Or do you just guess and then trust your surmise?

Mirrors that are helpful are held by those others,

Yet asking takes courage, to seek and discover.

I fear what they'll say and I fear looking vain,

I fear putting them on the spot of some pain.

So instead I assume and I act on my guess,

While the truth of how I land is how they assessed.

Say, "I have a favor, unusual it's true,

“Feel free to decline — it's entirely up to you.”

“I'm learning how I land in the eyes of some people.”

“Would you score me on some traits — your candor's most helpful?”

“On a scale of zero to nine, How easy-going am I?”

“How trustworthy, charismatic, how much do I try?”

“If your score is below an eight, tell me the why —

That gap between six and ten? That's where I might fly.”

“My voice, my confidence, the warmth that I show,

“My patience, my humor — there's so much to know.”

“What can you count on me for, rain or shine?”

“Just give me a score from zero to nine?”
 

Ask ten different people — some friends or a stranger,

A seatmate on planes, where there’s no trace of danger.

Their world may surprise you, this feedback from others,

You'll see how they see you, good things to discover.
