Tongue Betrayals: A 1000+ Each Day

Our words are laced with silent snares,
That shape our minds with hidden cares.
A thousand terms, all sly, unfair,
That trap us in what we must bear.

The words that shame the love of self,
Have locked our joy on some high shelf.
To call us selfish, cold, or vain,
Is how the saboteurs constrain.

Acquisitive becomes "too greedy,"
Self-protective turns to "needy."
Close-fisted, lazy, self-absorbed—
And noble care’s misnamed and scorned.

While "generous" glows like a crown,
We’re scared to let the others down.
We strive to shine through their gaze,
And lose ourselves inside that maze.

The words that shame the love of self,
Have locked our joy on some high shelf.
And praise for those who grind and strive
Can rob the wonder from our lives.

Hardworking, driven, self-controlled—
These golden chains are just as cold.
If you're not "patient," "disciplined,"
Then you are weak—or worse, have sinned.

To rest is "lazy," wasteful sin,
Enjoying now won’t help you win.
Our language puts the Next on first,
And Now again stews in a curse.

So notice words that make you flinch—
Each one may be a moral stench.
Undo the grip these terms enforce—
And let your joy set your new course.

The words that shame the love of self,
Have locked our joy on some high shelf.
But if you speak a freer tone,
You’ll claim your life as yours alone.
