I Don't Have Opinions

An opinion's a fake in a truth-shaped disguise,

Presented as fact, and believed with closed eyes.

What I assert stands on tested, real ground,

In facts, not in feelings, is where truth I have found.

I don't have opinions, just truths I can show,

I question each word and weigh what I know.

Don’t deflect with "it’s just an opinion," you say,

Challenge what I'm saying, please don't turn away.

When I make my case, with all the facts lined in place,

Then you say "that's just your opinion" right to my face.

That's not real engagement, you’re shutting that door fast,

A dodge dressed as wisdom, built to keep facts outcast.

Maybe you’re not granting that my assertions could be true,

Worth proving or breaking, worth running it through.

Or you're covertly implying that nothing can be truly known,

That ethics is all feeling, not derived from facts that can be shown.

Dig deeper, it's only a false peace you’re defending,

A wall built to guard you from doubt and some bending.

To question your sense of yourself, the world, and the rest,

Feels far too much like a fearful and onerous test.

I don't have opinions, just truths I can show,

I question each word and weigh what I know.

Don’t deflect with "it’s just an opinion," you say,

Challenge what I'm saying, please don't turn away.

I don't claim that I'm right beyond any question or doubt,

Some claims that I make could get challenged and found out.

I have the door open that welcomes knowing I was wrong,

It’s that door that builds a knowing that makes our lives strong.

But it's right at that moment with that door open wide,

That the same tired phrase comes right back to deride.

"We all have opinions," you say with a shrug,

The dodge throws my invitation right under the rug.

Yet listen to others, the things they declare,

As though they knew facts and were really aware.

"He obviously doesn't care," clearly thinking they’re right,

"I can't let her handle it,” have they turned off the light?!.

Little words like "obviously," "had to," and "can't"

Aren't simple descriptions, they're argument's slant.

Unquestioned, they slide, while my claims face the test,

That's the double standard that I want addressed.

I don't have opinions, just truths I can show,

I question each word and weigh what I know.

Don’t deflect with "it’s just an opinion," you say,

Challenge what I'm saying, please don't turn away.

I got it!
